Each February, bird lovers around the globe take part in the Great Backyard Bird Count, a worldwide community science project sponsored by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology in partnership with the Audubon Society and Birds Canada. Participants count birds and help create a real-time snapshot of bird populations around the world. Visit birdcount.org for more info
Old Rag Master Naturalists in collaboration with the Cedar Mountain Battlefield Foundation will lead a local bird walk as part of this annual event.
Our walk is scheduled for Sunday February 15, 2026 , with a rain date of Monday February 16
We’ll be exploring the trails at the Cedar Mountain Battlefield—a site rich in diverse habitats including open fields, wooded areas, and a pond. These varied landscapes attract an excellent mix of species. In past years, participants have spotted bluebirds, multiple woodpecker species, songbirds, hawks, and warblers.
👟 Group size is limited to 15 participants, so plan ahead and grab a spot early.
