Project Background
Virginia Tree Stewards is a non-profit organization supporting rural and urban forests and promoting knowledge and understanding of the value of trees for present and future generations. The organization's local chapters hold tree walks and other public education events, plant and care for trees in public spaces and on private land near streams and rivers, and manage invasives.

ST (Stewardship) Activities with Virginia Tree Stewards
Tree Stewardship
Volunteers plant trees, prune trees, manage the tree nursery, remove invasive plants, staff tables at public events and educate the public.

- Locations: Public areas in Madison, Culpeper, Rappahannock, Fauquier and Albemarle County, determined by needs of the local administration.
- Physical Requirements/Safety Hazards: May include exposure to heat, cold, dampness, rain, sun, ticks, poison ivy, snakes and insect bites/stings. Walking over flat to steep terrain may be required.
- Special Requirements: Volunteers must complete a 15-week training course (held once a year), participate in field trips and pass tests on each module.
- Time Commitment: Volunteers are expected to contribute a minimum of 25 hours per year on tree steward projects.
