Project Background
The Memorial Foundation of the Germanna Colonies in Virginia (Germanna Foundation) is a non-profit organization that aims to preserve the heritage of the earliest German settlements in colonial Virginia in the 1710s. It donated the land to establish Germanna Community College and owns the 179-acre Siegen Forest. The Germanna Foundation is undertaking active restoration of the native flora in the Siegen Forest and will offer educational programs to the public on the natural aspects of the property. ORMN's participation in the projects will include collaboration with the Central Rappahannock chapter of VMN. The Siegen Forest is located at 2062 Germann Highway, Locust Grove, VA. 22508. ED (Education ) Activities with Germanna Foundation - Siegen Forest
Nature Education
ORMN volunteers plan and lead walks and field trips for the public. They work with Germanna staff to develop signage identifying trees, plants, etc. within the forest and to develop other education programs.

- Location: Siegen Forest, Locust Grove, Orange County. 2062 Germann Highway, Locust Grove, VA. 22508.
- Physical Requirements/Safety Hazards: May involve exposure to heat, cold, dampness, rain, sun, ticks, poison ivy, snakes and insect bites/stings. Some areas of the Siegen Forest trails are steep and need to be traversed with care. While several of the trails are accessible to individuals using walking sticks or canes, there are other trails that are not accessible to individuals with mobility challenges.
- Special Requirements: Participants will be interacting with the public, including children. If working with minors, ORMN volunteers must review the Risk Management policy on the Virginia Master Naturalist website, paying special attendion to the "Above Suspicion Policy."
- Time Commitment: Up to each individual.
