Chapter members walked the hilly trails. Early in the walk, Ballard described a severe thunderstorm that stalled on a mountainside dropping a huge amount of rain overnight. The downpour caused a landslide that toppled many trees.

Santucci describes one method for killing ailanthus trees. These invasive, non-native trees need strong controls. This tree was slashed at two-inch intervals all the way around the trunk. Herbicide was poured into the slash and taken into the vascular system of the tree.
